I, along with members of my family have been Nortax clients for years and have been satisfied up to recently. A long delay in receipt of my mother's 2016 Notice of Assessment prompted me to contact CRA on May 29th and I was advised that the official at Nortax could fax my Power of Attorney form to them so that they could release information to me about my mother's account. I was told that this was faxed on May 30th but to date has not yet been received by CRA prompting me to have to send one myself which I would have done initially had I known the one I requested from Nortax would not be sent. CRA also advised that the Nortax official who approved and filed the 2016 taxes for my mom could call them and would be advised of the reason for the delay. To date, despite repeated phone calls to Nortax after being advised that this would be done, this call has never been made from Nortax to CRA. The unknown reason for the delay of my mother's Notice of Assessment has resulted in her not being eligible for a reduction in her room rate at the nursing home where she resides, therefore, since July1st, she had to pay an additional $500.00 and this will occur monthly until we have received her 2016 Notice of Assessment. Nortax's unwillingness to assist an elderly woman with her financial situation makes me sick to my stomach. in the past, I have had no problem recommending Nortax. To date, I have had several co-workers from Sault College ask me for a referral to a tax service. As you can imagine, I will certainly not be referring them to Nortax and will have no problem letting them know why.
