The displays are varied so as to appeal to visitors of all ages and interests. Some of the lighting needs to be tweaked but items are clearly marked. Personal audio tour devices are provided. There is a gift shop that includes additional historic displays at the entrance worth perusing.
The River of History Museum is located in an office building (which houses offices of the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians) on Ashmun street, across from the old Soo Theatre. There is street parking in front and additional city parking lots around the block with access to a rear entrance. (A handicap spot is right next to the rear door.) M. Belevender
This museum is a “must see” for anyone interested in the rich history of Sault Ste. Marie. It features authentic cultural pieces as well as reproductions and quality artwork to tell the story in a chronological walk-through and video display. Local artists, artisans and history experts have contributed to this well-rounded collection that reflects the strong Ojibwa foundation as well as that of the immigrants' contributions to the area. Unique to this museum visitors will find a display on Chase S. Osborn, the only Michigan governor to come from the U.P. as well as displays of other prominent figures in the history of the region. There are truly things here you will not find anyplace else.
I'm attending a native language class.
