The service was excellent, but the food was mediocre. The tomato sauce was bland. I ordered the ravioli and it was obvious that it wasn't fresh. The meat mixture was bland and the noodle portion was tough. I was really disappointed. I've gone to other Italian restaurants where the ravioli was amazing. If I wanted store bought frozen ravioli, I could have just gone to the grocery store and just warmed it up myself. I did at least enjoy the meatballs that were included in my meal, but overall the food here is overrated. Your money is best spent elsewhere.
He said, "sorry, but I didn't cook it" (worried about his tip) rather than worrying about making his customer happy. No suggestions were made...just the $32 bill....so for me $32 for a small Cesar and a beer....needless to say...NO tip.
There was a pool of water at the bottom of my plate...pasta was not properly drained. Pasta itself was slightly overcooked, which was forgivable. However where I was lost, was in the meatballs...seemed like a process mixture with a soft texture..not what I expected for "home made".
Giovanni's provides amazing value for your money. Portions are always quite generous at a fair price in a very nice venue. I've always found the service to be very good although the bar lack the ability to blend any type of cocktail that isn't on their specialty drink list. The ribs are one of the best choices on the menu and are always a great cut.
Giovanni's has always been a family favorite for us. When we come to visit the Soo we always go for dinner here. Today we visited and I have to say we were a bit disappointed. They no longer have table cloths on the tables which leaves sweaty wet glass marks on the tables that then drip in your clothes, they have also changed to paper napkins which are used to wipe up all of the sweat from the water glasses.We had to ask for more water and extra napkins before our main dish even came out. I have always liked that the server offers fresh parmigiana cheese and fresh ground pepper for your meal and when I asked asked about that today I was told that it is just on the tables now but that it is freshly ground day daily. It's not the same. And the service was not like it used to be either. The food was still good, but it's been better in the past.
Of he would've at least made an attempt to try and help...I would've tipped....but he slaged the cook, and wasn't helpful.
I would have given one star, but the service was excellent.
So, after trying a few bites, I just couldn't it and put it aside. The server....first asked me if I wanted to take it with me...I said NO, and explained why.
Where to start. Ordered Spaghetti with meatballs, with an extra meatball. Upgraded the salad to Caesar.
The sauce...again, did not have a good flavour, 'chef boyardee' and the meat in the sauce appeared more like hamburger, than the meatballs...overall very disappointed. Servers always seems to ask you 'how is it' questions when you have a mouth full of good...so...I gave him the ..so-so gesture with my hand.
Have not been here in years. Quantities where always VERY generous, but we felt in the past that the quality and taste was somewhat lacking. Recently friends of our ranted and raved about how delicious it was and that the serving sizes where still very reminiscent of days gone by. So we decided to give it a shot again... I have to say...it was FANTASTIC! Service was great...food was delicious and plentiful. The waitress said that it was a family business, but was bought out by another member of the family. Whoever has it under management NOW has done a remarkable job turning it around (taste and quality wise) while still maintaining the great portion size and Value...THANK YOU... we will be regulars once again ..A++++
