This is a really nice hotel the rooms are clean and very nice. The hotel itself is well-maintained. The staff was very nice to us. The restaurant was very good. We had a great view of the locks and got to see a big ship go through them. I will definitely stay at this hotel and highly recommend it to anyone staying in the upper peninsula.
Beautiful hotel. Had to change rooms due to no maintenance staff on duty on Sunday. A simple task could have saved us time and effort with moving our luggage. The service in the restaurant Sunday was very slow, however the breakfast was very good and reasonable. Overall we enjoyed our stay. The location and scenery were very nice.
My complaints, the service was discouraging, granted I sleep during the day and stay for weeks at a time, so my requests are not typical. The fridges are very small and I had to wait a full day to receive a fridge or microwave (non-standard but available) clean towels seem to be in short supply as the attendant has to fetch them from the basement upon request again I don't receive usual room service due to sleeping. There are rooms where pets are allowed, this is a negative for me because any hotel that allows pets has a lower standard of cleanliness than if they did not (this is experience talking and generally true). So far i have encountered neither barking dogs nor fleas at this hotel.
I would not recommend this stay to my mother or girlfriend but fellow coworkers or extended stay adventurers could do far worse at random hotels or motels this far north.
Don't get fooled by outside appearance.
Very old rooms and old hotel. Beds are in bad state. Carpet and walls seem pretty bad. I guess, it's a famous place back in 1928. Inspire of many renovations, only thing that looks close to OK is the rest room. Another thing that seemed awkward is the coffee machine is in the rest room. Didn't dare to use it.
First my room had no bugs, no mites, no fleas. Thank you. There is not an overabundance of mold or mildew smell for the age. The pillows are poor but not terrible and the bed is good not great.
I am visiting in the off-season and this town is built up around seasonal tourism. Great location, near to the locks the college, the army corps of engineers building and downtown. Nostalgic feel (depending how many decades have gone by), good amenities jacuzzi suites, couches in the rooms, pool, hot tub, sauna, workout room, attached restaurant (seasonal so no breakfast for me this time of year) public computer and printer, table for chess and checkers, rentable multipurpose room and a good amount of social space. They seems to allow cooking in the rooms which is a good thing for me. The generously sized bathrooms are vented as well.
This company charged me three times even though I only reserved one room. I was overdrawn due to them taking more money than I authorized. Anytime I called I never talked to a manager even though I asked for her hours the previous day. I ended up cancelling my reservation and also cancelled the second reservation that I never authorized. It could take up to ten business days to get my money back. I'm a single mom and haven't been on a trip with my son for years. This was such a bad experience for me and now my money is tied up with these people. The customer service is awful and they don't seem to care about my business. When I read the reviews i saw many of the similar problems that I was having. Maybe it is time to get a decent group of people in there
